Summery Sugarplum Wreath

I’m back today and playing along with Can You Case It #121 color challenge and the Paper Players #296 sketch challenge.

The CYCI challenge colors are so pretty and summery that I immediately thought of flowers.  Who am I kidding, I usually think of flowers for most of my cards.  I will have to try to go in some other directions in the future.  Then when I saw the PP sketch, I thought of a wreath…

The new In-Colors are my favorites in quite a few years.  I usually like a couple in the collection but this year I think they are ALL so pretty.  I’m using Sweet Sugarplum on this card.  The card base is Daffodil Delight with a mat of Sweet Sugarplum.  The patterned paper is from My Favorite Things.  I adore gingham and thought this paper had such a summer feel to it.  The sentiment is from the hostess set that will soon be retiring, Best Thoughts, and is stamped in Sweet Sugarplum ink.

Watermarked Photo 4 (2016-05-24-1409)To create the wreath, I adhered the sugarplum and the gingham layers but didn’t glue them to the card base.  I used a circle from the Circles Collection Framelits to cut a center out of the layers.  Then glued it to the card base.  The flowers are stamped using the Grateful Bunch stamp set and punched with the Blossom Bunch punch.  I only used the middle sized flower from the trio.  After punching them out, I colored them with the Sweet Sugarplum marker and added a rhinestone colored with a yellow sharpie.  They were arranged around the circle.  I finished the wreath off with a bow made from the new Sugarplum Ruched ribbon.

The inside sentiment is from the Suite Sayings stamp set and is stamped in…you guessed it…Sweet Sugarplum.  With just a little piece of patterned paper and cardstock, you can make the inside as nice as the front of the card.  These small pieces of paper would probably just be thrown away, so why not use them.

I lined the envelope flap with the leftover gingham paper and because I was just a little bit short, I added a strip of Sweet Sugarplum cardstock…but no one needs to know that’s why it looks so nice!  I love embellishing the inside and the envelopes almost as much as the front of the card.  It just really pulls everything together for an absolutely custom look.

I hope this card put a smile on your face today and made you feel a little bit summery too.  I am always happy to answer your questions or comments…please let me know if you have any!

Until next time…take care,

Rosanne

  1. Love that fun gingham paper and pretty wreath. That new in color is awesome! I have not seen them in person yet, though, and am hoping the sugar plum will be a nice replacement for lovely lilac. I can’t seem to find a shade that I like as well as that.Is it similar?

Thanks for joining us for the sketch challenge this week at The Paper Players!

    • Thanks Laurie, I don’t recall Lovely Lilac so I can’t say. But it reminds me of a color of sherbet. It is now my favorite shade of purple since Blackberry Bliss is going away.
