Retiring Botanical Print Product Medley – On Sale

Stampin Up Botanical Prints Product Medley Thinking of You card idea -Rosanne Mulhern stampinup

You probably already know and many have already seen the retirement list that was published yesterday.  If not, they’re linked below.  One of the surprises that I found was the Botanical Print Product Medley.  I wasn’t surprised it was on the list, since it appeared in the Jan-June Mini catalog and most of the kits are going away.  It was the deep discount it’s being offered at that surprised me!  This kit retailed for $70 in the catalog and is now 40% off at $42.00.  I absolutely LOVED the Designer Series Paper and to be honest, that’s the reason I bought the kit (at $70!).  However, upon receiving it and seeing all the possibilities, I’m really glad I did…even at full price!  If you’re looking for a complete kit, this one is IT!  It includes everything you see here…

I don’t purchase many kits, but there have been a few that I’ve really gotten my money’s worth from and this is definitely one of them.  I’ve created note card sets to give away, a set of all occasion cards for myself and another to give to an elderly friend.  I altered some of the paper by coloring it.  After all I’ve created with this kit, I still have a lot of paper and embellishments left.  I’ll also have the stamps and dies to keep creating with long after I’ve used up the paper and embellishments. I’m even thinking about creating sets of recipe cards for myself and to give as gifts.  I’ll be sure to post them when I have them made.  I also plan on creating little tags for the preserves I put up every summer.  The list just goes on and on!

The card I’m sharing today uses a lot of the elements included in this kit.  Here’s a few details:

  • I used the stamps and die cuts to stamp and cut the fruit branches. They were stamped in Smoky Slate ink and colored with Stampin’ Blends.
  • The sentiment was stamped on one of the labels that are included in the kit.
  • The banner was created by layering the intricate die cut included in the kit with a piece of Pretty Peacock cardstock then punching it with the Triple Banner Punch.  It measures 1 1/2″.  I cut another banner in black cardstock and matted them.
  • I glued all the pieces to the banner…no dimensionals here!

  • The inside is embellished with a strip of DSP and Basic Black cardstock along the bottom of the Whisper White cardstock.
  • I added a sentiment from the Well Said stamp set, which will be carrying over in the new annual catalog, to the bottom so I would have a lot of room to add a personal note.  Just a little different way to position a sentiment.

  • Since the DSP in this collection is 6″ x 6″, I had just the right amount leftover to use in the inside of the card as well as to embellish the front of the envelope.

…and here is the altered DSP.  I put the original and colored side by side so you can see the changes.

It was fun to see the difference the coloring made.  Not to mention, the hours of coloring relaxation I had!

  1. I love the way you altered the DSP by coloring! Beautiful! It is a great kit and even better at 40% off! I’m sure your free tutorials will be awesome too!!!!

  2. These cards are gorgeous! Can’t wait to get this kit and try my hand at coloring. Do you have any tips on coloring these?
    Thank you

    • Thanks, Kathi! I’ve been practicing blending with the Stampin’ Blends a lot lately…since I have the time, lol! I start out with the light color and then give it another coat with the light to darken it just a little more before blending in a small amount of the darker shade. I usually use the darker shade just in the corners and blend out. Hope this helps a little!

  3. Oh, my gosh, Rosanne. WOW with your changing the look of this DSP. I paid full price for my kit too and almost ordered it again at the $42 but I only wanted the paper, bees and ribbon! I will give this a try. I’m so glad I found your site. You create beautiful dies. I love the boxed set you did with too. I’m not too great at making boxes. Did you learn on your own or watch a video?

    • Hi Karen…thanks very much for your kind comment. I’ve had the most fun with this kit and I’m hoping another one like this will come along again. Perhaps we’ll see it on the clearance rack at an even deeper discount at some point!
