Happy Thoughts with Free as a Bird

HELLO!  I’m reaching into my current stamps sets that have been a bit neglected.  I know we all love what’s fresh and new but I’m going to try to give equal time to those sets that have been around for awhile.  Today I chose the Free as a Bird stamp set.  This set was very popular when it first came out in the last annual catalog cycle.  It also had beautiful, coordinating Designer Series Paper.  Well even though the paper is not around any longer, I think the stamps are still pretty and can carry a card on their own.

Here’s the details…

  • The A2 card base is Thick Whisper White.
  • I cut a piece of Rococo Rose card stock to 5 3/8″ x 4 1/8″ and glued it to the card base.
  • For the Whisper White background, I used a retired Chicken Wire Element (which was unopened until now).  I lightly glued it to a piece of Whisper White card stock and trimmed around it so that the chicken wire fit perfectly.
  • This panel is glued to the Rococo Rose panel.

  • All the images are hand cut and colored using Stampin’ Blends.  Along with the birds on the branch, I also cut small flowers and leaves to add to the bird image.
  • Tiny pearls are added to the flower centers.
  • Lastly, I had this little non SU  “hello” die that I thought was the perfect size.  I die cut it 4 times and layered it for some dimension.

  • The inside sentiment is from the Happy Thoughts stamp set in the January-June Mini Catalog. This is a perfect set for inside sentiments.

I’m happy I pulled this set out again as it was fun to color and even fussy cut!  Sometimes stamp sets are so short-lived that I’m really going to try to give them their due.  If I thought they were good enough to buy, they certainly should be good enough for me to use more than once or twice!

Here’s another project I did using the stamp set and DSP. Even though the paper is unavailable, you could achieve the same results just using the stamp set.  If you wish to read the whole blog post, click HERE.

  1. Rosanne, this card is stunning with the chicken wire and your awesome coloring and fussy cutting. So beautiful. I agree with you about using older sets. It is fun to use them again. Enjoy your day!

  2. Beautiful projects!!! Thank you so very much for ‘bringing back’ some of the older stamp sets and stash! As you say, even those of us to whom this is not a business, tend to get very excited about new sets and the possibilities. But then they are demonstrated only for a very short and intense time before something new replaces them. Not all of us are in this as a business and need to sell. It gets expensive trying to keep up, at least for those of us which are doing it for the sheer passion and satisfaction of creating something which will hopefully offer a sentiment and knowledge that someone thought about them. I love sending cards and notes, it’s a lost art. So thank you very much, I am so excited to see what you resurrect next!!!

  3. Beautiful card. It makes me want to look at that set again.

  4. Absolutely gorgeous. I love your talent in coloring and cutting. Just so nice and looks great. Thank you for sharing. Have a good day.
